AR Policy

Creek View School has a supplemental, enrichment reading program in place called Accelerated Reader (AR). This is a program where students read independently at their level and then take a comprehension test on the computer. The goal of this program is to improve reading skills such as fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

In grades 1-5, students are to independently read their AR book. Students may read out loud to a parent, sibling, grandparent, or another adult. However, adults may help the student with unfamiliar vocabulary, but adults are not to read the AR book to the child.

In the primary grades, students are encouraged to read the book several times before taking a test. Testing takes place at school between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. with students reading the questions and selecting the answers individually. Students who score a 60% or less will have their test deleted by the teacher and given the opportunity to reread the book and retake the comprehension test. All teachers monitor the Accelerated Reader program.

Individual grade levels set goals for each trimester. You will be receiving this information at Back-to School Night and through individual teacher’s classroom newsletters.
